Year 1

In Year 1, your children will continue their reading journey with new books to explore. When you read to your child, make it fun! Encourage them to join in with phrases and try different voices for characters. Add actions and look for rhyming words. After the story, retell it together and talk about what the characters might be thinking. This makes story time special and enjoyable for both of you!

Here are some of my favourite picks from my recommended reads: Dragon Post by Emma Yarlett, tells the story of Alex who stumbles upon a dragon residing beneath his staircase. This captivating book encourages children to actively participate by opening envelopes and uncovering letters that aid Alex in taking care of the dragon. Who knew that looking after a dragon could be so much work?

There’s a Tiger in the Garden by Lizzy Stewart is brimming with imagination and curiosity, beautifully complemented by the illustrations. I Can Only Draw Worms by Will Mabitt is sure to make your children burst into laughter and is perfect reading aloud to a whole class or just between you and your child.
